Gutter Journalism in Times of War
(S)
()
10/15/2001- Political - IV0110-1563
By: Ahmed Amr - Iviews* - .....
America seems to suddenly have an abundance of experts and pundits on Bin Laden and Islamic Extremists. All of them seem to have firm opinions on how to deal with those responsible for the carnage in New York. They want the death sentence for the suicidal terrorists who assaulted our shores. Once this war is over, these very same pundits and experts will resume their search for Chandra Levy and chase O J Simpson around some Florida golf course.

Sharon's Media Collaborators
(S)
()
6/26/2001- Political - IV0106-1437
By: Ahmed Amr - Iviews* - .....
The BBC just aired a documentary about Sabra and Shatila that should have been made two decades ago. Not surprisingly, the conclusion is that Ariel Sharon should be indicted for war crimes. In London, the Israeli press attache, David Schneeweiss, protested. "We've been in touch with the BBC at all levels to find out what the programme's about. One has to question why they are focusing on old news. These events happened 20 years ago." (Brian Whitaker, The Guardian, Friday June 15, 2001).

By: Ahmed Amr - Iviews* - .....
You have to take off your hat in the presence of men like Robert Fisk and Phil Reeves, both British, both eloquent, both unyielding in their efforts to accurately report what their eyes see on the ground in the Middle East

Exchanging a Veto for Drilling Rights
(S)
()
3/30/2001- Political - IV0103-1304
By: Ahmed Amr - Iviews* - .....
In
yet another act of groveling to the Jewish Lobby, the Bush Administration cast
its first veto against a United Nations Security Council resolution that would
protect the Palestinians from Sharon's thugs. This arrogant display of disdain
for Palestinian suffering was timed to deliberately snub the Arab 'leaders'
meeting in Amman. George wants to remind them that they are on his payroll,
under his protection and not to forget their place, under his thumb.

Kofi Annan Deserves No Respect
(S)
()
3/27/2001- Political - IV0103-1295
By: Ahmed Amr - Iviews* - .....
So, Kofi Annan has been invited to speak at the
Arab League meeting. I can’t think of a worse omen. This man is obviously
taking a little coin on the side. He is a hired hand who just got a large tip
from Ted Turner of CNN. He recently had some harsh words for Ms. Robinson, the
ex president of Ireland, because she dared to raise human rights issues in a
manner that Kofi found inconvenient for his career prospects at the United
Nations.

The Census and the Senate
(S)
()
3/23/2001- Political - IV0103-1279
By: Ahmed Amr - Iviews* - .....
Until the ballots were counted, few Americans
paid any serious attention to the last presidential election. Now that the
campaign is long over, they are all ears. The brutal battle over the White House
was just distracting background noise until they started probing chads and
pardons. The two big party candidates finally came up with an issue on which
they visibly disagreed. And America tuned in.

Till the Last Dog Dies

By: Ahmed Amr - Iviews* - .....
Freedom of
the press is one of the liberties one must truly cherish as an American. In many
other democracies, the right to put pen to paper requires a license or other
governmental intrusions. There are many countries in the world where the state
retains a monopoly on the press.

What Every Palestinian Should Know
(S)
()
3/13/2001- Political - IV0103-1241
By: Ahmed Amr - Iviews* - .....
There are things that no one dares to reveal to the Palestinians. Perhaps certain truths are better left unspoken. So many Palestinians walk around believing that "if only the world knew ……". Well, I hate to deliver this message to a people I have long admired for their resilience and their courage. The world knows everything about you. They know you are being treated like caged animals. They have seen the picture of Mohammed El Durah and a hundred others.

Kosher News Burials
(S)
()
3/6/2001- Political - IV0103-1231
By: Ahmed Amr - Iviews* - .....
I know a place where they write the news just the way your Jewish aunt loves to read it. You want Israel for breakfast, lunch and dinner? You want to kibbitz like you’re in a Likudnik Kibbutz? This is the joint. Looking for a place where you can lounge around like a lizard with a cobra-eating snake like the infamous Sharon of Sabra and Shatila? I know a place on West 43rd Street in the big apple. The joint is owned by the Sulzberger family. What Hebrew National is to sausage, the New York Times is to reporting. It’s a strictly kosher menu. But even the goys come in for a bite of this uniquely American-Jewish ethnic journal. What options do they have, The Daily News? ) ... More
